The College of Arts at the University of Basrah organized a workshop on the geostrategic significance of the Bosporus and Dardanelles Straits in international oil trade.
The workshop aimed to highlight the geopolitical and geo-economic importance of the Turkish straits—particularly the Bosporus and the Dardanelles—given their vital role in the movement of oil tankers and their connection to historical conflicts and continuous international interest throughout the ages.
The workshop included the presentation of several research papers in which scholars discussed the pivotal role of maritime transport as the backbone of global trade, emphasizing that control over maritime chokepoints and strategic passages grants states significant geostrategic power.
