Doctoral Dissertation at the University of Basrah Examines the Impact of Green Banking on Financial Sustainability
The College of Administration and Economics at the University of Basrah discussed a doctoral dissertation that examined the impact of green banking on financial sustainability in selected countries, with reference to Iraq.
The study aimed to clarify the relationship between green finance and financial sustainability indicators by measuring its impact on public debt, gross domestic product (GDP), reserves, and exports, in addition to proposing scenarios for addressing carbon emissions.
The dissertation, submitted by PhD candidate Ahmed Duaier Abdulrahman, presented a systematic comparison between three leading countries in green banking (the United States, the United Kingdom, and Sweden) and Iraq, based on a statistical analysis covering the period 2013–2035.
The findings concluded that green finance significantly contributes to enhancing financial sustainability, reducing external debt, and improving economic indicators, and that the proposed scenarios for Iraq are capable of supporting sustainability and reducing emissions.
