University of Basrah Organizes a Scientific Seminar on Fungal Plant Diseases
The College of Agriculture at the University of Basrah organized a scientific seminar entitled “Diagnosis of the Most Common Fungal Plant Diseases in Basrah Governorate.”
The seminar aimed to familiarize participants with methods for diagnosing fungal diseases in both field and laboratory settings.
The seminar, delivered by Dr. Yahya Ashour Saleh, Dr. Alaa Ouda Manaa, and Dr. Ali Zuhair Abd, presented an overview of the most prevalent fungal diseases in the governorate, including damping-off, root rot, Fusarium wilt, early blight, leaf spot, and charcoal rot affecting various crops.
The speakers explained how to distinguish these diseases based on visible symptoms and disease signs, in addition to the procedures for isolating causal agents and diagnosing them in the laboratory using microscopy and taxonomic keys.
