University of Basrah Organizes a Training Workshop on the Use of Rubber Dam in Dentistry
The College of Dentistry at the University of Basrah organized a specialized training workshop on the use of the rubber dam in dentistry, with the participation of fourth-year students.
The workshop aimed to enhance students’ skills in applying the rubber dam within clinical settings, enabling them to use it correctly to ensure a dry and safe treatment environment, thereby improving the quality of clinical procedures.
The theoretical lecture, presented by Lecturer Batoul Basim Moanes, introduced the importance of the rubber dam as a primary tool for isolating the treated tooth from the oral cavity during restorative procedures, highlighting its role in improving material adhesion, reducing salivary contamination, and increasing clinical efficiency.
The practical session, delivered by Lecturer Ola Mohammed Abdul-Kadhim, demonstrated step-by-step the proper use of the rubber dam. She emphasized that providing a clean and dry environment facilitates successful restorations, enhances the dentist’s visibility, and prevents accidental ingestion of instruments. She also noted that the rubber dam is particularly essential in composite restorations, root canal treatments, and other precise procedures requiring complete isolation.
