University of Basrah Faculty Member Participates in a Seminar on Beekeeping Fundamentals
Dr. Mahmoud Shaker Hashim, a faculty member at the Marine Sciences Center, University of Basrah, participated in a scientific seminar organized by the College of Agriculture on the fundamentals of honeybee beekeeping. This seminar was part of professional development programs aimed at enhancing scientific collaboration across university departments.
Dr. Hashim delivered a lecture entitled “Honeybee Beekeeping,” in which he presented the latest scientific concepts and practices in managing apiaries, maintaining beehives, and creating suitable conditions to ensure sustainable production.
The lecture addressed the scientific principles of beekeeping, hive management, and the vital role of bees in supporting environmental diversity and boosting agricultural production through pollination. It also covered modern methods for controlling pests and diseases affecting hives, strategies for developing honey and bee product projects into sustainable economic resources, and highlighted the key characteristics and benefits of various bee products such as honey, beeswax, royal jelly, and pollen, along with best practices to optimize their use for sustainable operations and economic viability.
