Master’s Thesis at the University of Basrah Investigates the Impact of Water Flow on Soil Erosion
A master’s thesis at the College of Engineering, University of Basrah, conducted an analytical study on the impact of river water flow on soil erosion around bridge foundations in Basrah Governorate.
The thesis, submitted by student Abdul Sattar Abdul Jabbar Kazem, aimed to identify the risks of bridge collapse due to floods and rapid water flow, in order to assess the stability of bridges and determine their vulnerability factors.
The study comprised four chapters, in which the student analyzed four common cases of soil erosion, including long-term deterioration, erosion of central supports, scouring at bridge approaches, and contraction-induced erosion.
