University of Basrah Organizes a Discussion Session on Honeybee Pesticide Poisoning
The College of Agriculture at the University of Basrah organized a scientific discussion session titled “Honeybee Pesticide Poisoning”, with the participation of faculty members, researchers, and stakeholders in the beekeeping sector.
The session, presented by Dr. Mohammed Alwan Salman, aimed to shed light on the current status of honeybees and the challenges they face due to continuous exposure to pesticide spraying, along with the resulting negative effects on their vitality, behavior, and products.
The discussion addressed the causes and pathways of direct and indirect pesticide exposure in bee colonies, highlighted unsafe practices in the use of agricultural pesticides, and warned of their hazardous impacts on bee colonies and their products, particularly honey. The session emphasized the importance of adopting safe spraying methods that maintain environmental balance.
