A Master’s Thesis at the University of Basrah Examines Visual Stimulus in Contemporary Global Ceramics
A master’s thesis submitted to the College of Fine Arts at the University of Basrah examined visual stimulus in contemporary global ceramics.
The thesis, presented by researcher Zina Qasim Mohammed, aims to investigate visual stimulus in contemporary global ceramics from a critical and aesthetic perspective, while exploring the developments that have occurred in form and meaning in light of cultural and artistic transformations.
The study addressed the concept of visually engaging the viewer, which is considered one of the aesthetic strategies employed by contemporary artists in ceramic practices through the incorporation of unconventional materials that fall outside the traditional artistic context.
The thesis concluded that ceramics have been employed as a medium for visual narration, as some artists resort to using ceramics as a narrative medium and a philosophical tool to interrogate multiple issues.
