Master’s Thesis at the University of Basrah Explores Honeybee Efficiency in Enhancing Pea Productivity
The College of Agriculture at the University of Basrah studied a master’s thesis examining the efficiency of honeybees and other pollinating insects in pollinating flowers of different pea varieties and their impact on productivity under the conditions of Basrah Governorate.
The thesis, presented by researcher Samira Abdul Hassan Mohammed, aimed to identify the visiting insects and assess their pollination efficiency when multiple crop varieties are used.
The results showed that insect pollination is a crucial factor in improving both the quantity and quality of pea yields.
The study recommended adopting agricultural diversification practices, such as establishing green belts and strip cropping, due to their effective role in attracting pollinators and sustaining their ecological services, positively impacting food security.
