With Broad International Participation, University of Basrah Holds an International Conference on Infection Control
The College of Nursing at the University of Basrah held an international scientific conference titled “Antimicrobial Resistance and Infection Control,” in cooperation with health and academic institutions, to discuss the challenges of antimicrobial resistance and strategies for infection control.
The conference witnessed wide participation from a distinguished group of researchers, physicians, and nursing staff, alongside notable international participation by experts from outside Iraq, with the aim of formulating a scientific vision to confront epidemic risks and advance the healthcare sector.
In his opening address, the President of the University of Basrah, Dr. Muhannad Jawad Kazem Al-Asadi, stated:
“Today, the University renews its national responsibility to support rigorous scientific research and to employ knowledge in the service of society. Knowledge is not an intellectual luxury, but rather a mission and a trust to protect the lives of citizens.”
For his part, the Dean of the College of Nursing, Dr. Majid Asghar Mohammed, explained that the primary objective of the conference is to produce practical, implementable recommendations that contribute to the development of therapeutic policies in hospitals. He emphasized the pivotal role of nursing staff in infection control and in limiting the spread of microbial strains resistant to conventional treatments.
