Master’s Thesis at the University of Basrah Investigates Wheat Response to Foliar Application of Bio-Stimulants
A master’s thesis at the College of Agriculture, University of Basrah, examined the response of wheat to foliar application of the bio-stimulants chitosan and cultivated green algae in soils affected by salinity.
The thesis, submitted by researcher Mujtaba Talib Fahd, aimed to study the effects of different concentrations of chitosan and green algae, as well as their interactions, on the growth, yield, and quality of wheat.
The results of the study demonstrated a significant effect of both factors in enhancing growth traits, which positively reflected on increasing yield in terms of both quantity and quality.
The study recommended the potential use of these organic stimulants at the tested concentrations to enhance the productivity of wheat and other strategic crops, while reducing reliance on chemical fertilizers to mitigate their negative effects on soil, plants, and human health.
