University of Basrah Organizes a Scientific Lecture on Medical Waste Disposal
The College of Dentistry at the University of Basrah organized a scientific lecture entitled “Medical Waste Disposal from the Perspective of Health Physics” as part of the university’s efforts to raise health and environmental awareness.
The lecture aimed to highlight the vital role of health physics in radiation measurement and monitoring, as well as the proper methods for the storage, treatment, and disposal of medical waste in accordance with established scientific standards.
Delivered by Dr. Abdulrahman Faleh Hassan, the lecture defined medical waste and its various types, with particular emphasis on the associated physical and radiological hazards and safe handling practices to protect both humans and the environment.
The lecture also addressed the classification of medical waste, sources of radioactive waste in healthcare institutions, and potential risks resulting from radiation exposure.
It concluded by stressing the importance of promoting a culture of safe medical waste management to reduce physical and radiological hazards to healthcare workers and the surrounding environment.
