University of Basrah Organizes Course on Sustainable Aquaculture
The Marine Sciences Center at the University of Basrah organized a specialized course titled “Sustainable Environmental Practices in Fish Farms.”
The course aimed to raise awareness among farmers and sector workers and equip them with the necessary skills to minimize environmental impact and ensure sustainable production.
The course, delivered by Dr. Arafat Rajab Ahmed, covered several key topics, including water management, feed and nutrition management, disease prevention, ecosystem and biodiversity protection, waste and effluent management, and energy efficiency. It also introduced techniques such as Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS), polyculture, and integrated aquaculture practices, including combining fish farming with agriculture.
