University of Basrah Organizes Scientific Workshop on Sustainable Development
The Basrah and Arabian Gulf Studies Center at the University of Basrah organized a scientific workshop titled “Historical Roots of Sustainable Development and Its Relationship with the Science of History”, reflecting the university’s focus on development issues and human thought.
The workshop aimed to introduce the concept of sustainable development as a process that seeks to meet the needs of the present without compromising the rights of future generations, highlighting its integrated dimensions encompassing environmental, economic, and social aspects.
It emphasized that the principles of sustainable development are not merely modern concepts; rather, they are rooted in the Qur’an, the Sunnah, and the teachings of Imam Ali (peace be upon him), where their dimensions are clearly reflected in the Islamic perspective. By adhering to these values, the desired human development can be achieved.
The workshop, presented by Dr. Sundus Bandar Khazal, also highlighted the close relationship between development and the science of history, stressing that no developmental project or genuine renaissance can commence without seriously studying historical accumulations to understand human evolution and the transformation of societal roles over time.
