University of Basrah Organizes a Workshop on Diabetes in Children
The College of Pharmacy at the University of Basrah organized a workshop addressing the family burden following the diagnosis of Type 1 diabetes in children.
The workshop aimed to raise awareness on how to strengthen parents’ confidence, reduce stress related to daily care, improve blood sugar control, and enable children to live safe and normal lives.
The workshop featured a lecture delivered by Dr. Safa Kifah Qasim, a faculty member at the college, who highlighted the psychological impact on parents after their child’s diagnosis. She also discussed the role of pharmacists and health educators in providing education, psychological support, and continuous follow-up, while explaining essential skills such as insulin administration, blood sugar monitoring, and managing hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia.
