University of Basrah Organizes a Seminar on Human Rights Laws
The Marine Science Center at the University of Basrah, in collaboration with the Community Police of the governorate, organized a seminar titled “Human Rights Laws from the Perspective of Security Institutions.”
The seminar aimed to raise legal and human rights awareness and to foster a constructive dialogue between academics and specialists in law and human rights on one hand, and representatives of security institutions on the other, to exchange viewpoints and develop effective recommendations.
The seminar included several key discussions. Lieutenant Colonel Montadhar Kazem Al-Mousawi, representing the Community Police, addressed the balance between security duties and respect for human rights, explaining national and international legal frameworks governing the work of security institutions. He emphasized the importance of building trust between security institutions and citizens through respect for human rights, which in turn enhances community cooperation and societal stability.
Dr. Amjad Jasim Al-Shawi, Head of the Human Rights Unit at the College of Education, presented practical recommendations to improve the policies and training programs of security institutions while reinforcing respect for human rights. Additionally, Dr. Muhammad Mahdi Muhammad Yahya Al-Mousawi, Head of the Human Rights Unit at the center, highlighted the university’s role as an academic institution in building bridges of knowledge with state institutions to serve society.
