University of Basrah Organizes a Seminar on the Transformation of the Jewish Character in English Literature
The Basrah and Arab Gulf Studies Center at the University of Basrah organized a scientific seminar titled “The Image of the Jewish Character: From Stylistic Criticism to Cinematic Discourse and Its Transformation from Negative to Positive.”
The seminar aimed to analyze the portrayal of the Jewish character across different historical periods and to reveal how critical perspectives evolved from negative stereotypes to positive, interactive representations through the study of selected Western novels and both classic and contemporary foreign films.
The seminar included three main themes: the first examined the stages through which Western literature has depicted the Jewish character; the second focused on contemporary cinematic discourse and its shift from stereotypical portrayals to humanized representations; and the third highlighted the historical aspects of Jewish literature in its various stages. This comprehensive approach combined literary, critical, and historical dimensions to provide a holistic analysis.
