University of Basrah Hosts a Delegation from the United Nations Development Programme in Iraq
Dr. Shaker Ghalib Ajeel, Director General of the Marine Science Center, received a delegation from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Iraq.
The meeting aimed to provide all necessary facilitation and preliminary arrangements in preparation for the rehabilitation of the fish hatchery and fish farming ponds at the Marine Science Center by the UNDP.
The meeting emphasized that the rehabilitation of the hatchery and ponds requires filling the ponds with clean water, ensuring proper aeration, providing a nature-like environment (rocks and plants), supplying suitable food, maintaining cleanliness and disinfection, conducting regular water and organism testing, and employing modern techniques to ensure a healthy and sustainable environment.
The Director General highlighted that rehabilitating the hatchery and ponds is of vital importance for developing the center’s infrastructure, maximizing its financial resources, and promoting the concept of a productive center and university.
