The University of Basrah Organizes a Specialized Training Course on Beekeeping
The Marine Science Center at the University of Basrah organized a specialized training course on the fundamentals of honeybee breeding.
The course aimed to equip participants with the scientific knowledge and practical skills required for effective apiary management, while raising awareness of the economic and environmental importance of honeybees.
The course, delivered by Dr. Mahmoud Shaker Hashim, covered the identification of the components of a beehive and the essential tools used by beekeepers for hive inspection and honey extraction. It also addressed the utilization of various bee products, including honey, beeswax, royal jelly, and pollen, as well as methods for improving the standard traits of honeybees through queen rearing.
The course recommended the selection of colonies with standard specifications for the production of high-quality queens, in order to ensure the sustainability of beekeeping and achieve its economic and social objectives.
