University of Basrah Organizes a Lecture on the Hormonal and Chemical Content of Pollen Grains
The Date Palm Research Center at the University of Basrah organized a scientific lecture entitled “Chemical and Hormonal Content of Pollen Grains from Male Date Palm Varieties at Different Ages and Their Effect on the Ripening Rate of Barhi Tissue Dates.”
The lecture aimed to study the hormonal content of pollen grains at different ages, compare variations among different pollen groups, and assess their impact on certain productive traits of related trees, particularly in relation to the phenomenon of metaxenia.
The lecture, delivered by Dr. Firas Mahdi Abbas, introduced the male date palm varieties and their content of plant hormones and amino acids, highlighting their influence on the fruit ripening rate. It also discussed how pollen from the Ghanami Red and early Khakri varieties contained the highest levels of plant hormones and amino acids, which conferred an advantage in selecting one pollen variety over another for pollination purposes.
