University of Basrah Organizes a Discussion Session on Insect Extinction
The College of Agriculture at the University of Basrah organized a scientific discussion session entitled “Insect Extinction and Its Impacts on Sustainability,” attended by a number of faculty members and researchers.
The session, delivered by Dr. Faisal Nasser Jaber, aimed to raise participants’ awareness of the importance of insects and their pivotal role in ecosystems and sustainable agriculture.
The discussion addressed the causes of declining insect populations, including intensive farming, climate change, and the indiscriminate use of chemical pesticides.
It also examined the impacts of insect extinction on food security and biodiversity, emphasizing the need for scientific monitoring and the implementation of practical solutions to preserve beneficial insects and ensure environmental sustainability.
