University of Basrah Organizes a Scientific Seminar on Linguistic Discourse in Women’s Issues and Rights
The College of Agriculture at the University of Basrah organized a scientific seminar entitled “Linguistic Discourse in Women’s Issues and Rights,” with the participation of a number of faculty members and individuals interested in cultural affairs.
The seminar aimed to focus on the concept of linguistic discourse, the relationship between language and symbolic power, and the prevailing patterns of discourse surrounding women, in addition to highlighting mechanisms of bias in discourse and the importance of its critical analysis.
The seminar, delivered by Dr. Nada Nasser Shurhan and Dr. Zainab Ahmed Abdul Razzaq, addressed the role of alternative linguistic discourse in promoting awareness of women’s rights and confronting stereotypical images prevalent in society.
