Master's Thesis at the University of Basrah Explores Bacteria and Bioremediation
A master's thesis at the College of Science, University of Basrah, explored the bioremediation of water contaminated with petroleum and oily compounds using bacteria that produce the enzyme lipase.
The thesis, submitted by student Zainab Qais Hamid, aimed to isolate and identify bacteria that produce the lipase enzyme from soil and water contaminated with oil and grease from various locations in Basra Governorate.
The thesis comprised four chapters in which the student discussed the isolation and identification of bacterial species, the screening of lipase-producing bacterial species, and their use in treating oil and grease pollution.
