Master's Thesis at the University of Basrah Examines the Sedimentology and Mineralogy of the Nahr Omar Formation
A Master's thesis at the College of Science, University of Basrah, examined the sedimentology and mineralogy of the Nahr Omar Formation in the Ratawi oil field, southern Iraq.
The thesis, submitted by student Nahla Hamza Abbas, aimed to study the interpretation of open-hole well logs and the characterization of the core rocks available for the Nahr Omar Formation in selected wells from the field.
The thesis comprised four chapters in which the student discussed conducting petrographic examinations of rock sections to determine facies and the depositional environment, identify the dominant metamorphic processes in the formation's rocks, and perform laboratory analyses and tests using modern equipment to study the mineralogical and geochemical properties of the formation.
