University of Basrah Organizes Seminar on Psychological Support Mechanisms for Addressing Anxiety and Depression
The Central Library at the University of Basrah, in cooperation with the College of Education for Human Sciences and the Women's Affairs Department, organized an educational seminar entitled "Psychological Support Mechanisms for Addressing Anxiety and Depression Among Youth."
The seminar aimed to clarify the causes of anxiety and depression and the mechanisms of self-help to overcome these conditions.
The seminar, presented by Dr. Batoul Ghaleb Al-Nahi, included an introduction to the concepts of anxiety and depression, their differences, and the reasons that lead to the emergence of these symptoms. This creates a state of anxiety, characterized by negative thinking, which affects an individual's emotional state and, in turn, their blood biochemistry and physiological condition. A self-treatment program was discussed, focusing on restructuring negative thoughts and the mechanisms used to change them. Practicing these techniques will improve the emotional and physiological state resulting from anxiety and depression. Institutional support mechanisms for addressing anxiety and depression among students and employees were also presented. These mechanisms include providing a university psychological counselor to help students alleviate exam stress and organizing workshops to teach students time management and how to incorporate rest periods into their work lives.
