University of Basrah Continues to Support Agricultural Innovation
A research team from the Palm Research Center at the University of Basrah conducted a field visit to the date palm farm and tissue culture laboratory belonging to Dr. Hamed Al-Moussawi in the Al-Fayhaa area of Shatt Al-Arab district. The purpose of the visit was to observe the tissue culture date palms planted in their permanent location.
During the visit, the team reviewed the current state of tissue culture date palm cultivation, the health of the trees, and the diagnosis of some diseases. They also discussed scientific methods to mitigate these diseases and improve tree growth and productivity.
The visit also included the plant tissue culture laboratory, where the team examined the modern design of the laboratory and its facilities, as well as the equipment and technologies used in date palm propagation. This will contribute to the development and improvement of precision propagation programs.
This visit is part of the efforts of the Palm Research Center researchers to gain firsthand knowledge of tissue culture date palm cultivation in the private sector, enhance scientific cooperation, implement modern methods, and conduct applied research that contributes to the development of the date palm sector in Basra Governorate.
