University of Basrah Holds Workshop on Pulmonary Hypertension
The College of Medicine at the University of Basrah, represented by the Department of Internal Medicine, held a workshop on pulmonary hypertension in cooperation with the Iraqi Medical Association and the Basra Health Directorate.
The workshop aimed to raise awareness about the importance of early diagnosis to ensure proper treatment before complications worsen, as well as to educate participants about medications and modern treatment methods for this disease.
The workshop, which was attended by Dr. Dhar Al-Baaj, a cardiology consultant from Case Western Reserve University in the United States, included discussions on the latest developments in the diagnosis and treatment of pulmonary hypertension. Cardiologists, internists, postgraduate students, and members of the Iraqi Board of Cardiology and Internal Medicine were also present.
The workshop recommended coordinating with the Basra Health Directorate to establish a specialized pulmonary hypertension clinic in one of the teaching hospitals. This clinic would be responsible for documenting cases, conducting necessary medical examinations, and providing treatment. The workshop also recommended that postgraduate students at the College of Medicine and specialist physicians at the Basra Health Directorate conduct scientific research on this disease to address its medical problems and complications and reduce the resulting mortality rate.
