PhD Dissertation at the University of Basrah Investigates Pollutant Levels in Khor Al-Zubair Waters
A PhD dissertation at the College of Agriculture, University of Basrah, investigated the levels of certain pollutants in the water, sediments, and two fish species of Khor Al-Zubair.
The dissertation, submitted by researcher Ali Wafeeq Ali, aimed to assess organic pollutants, petroleum hydrocarbons, and heavy metals, as well as to diagnose water quality using approved environmental indicators. The study included collecting and analyzing water, sediment, and fish samples, and conducting thorough field and laboratory tests.
The results showed a significant increase in salinity and pollutant concentrations, and their impact on water quality and aquatic life, indicating a clear environmental degradation in Khor Al-Zubair.
