University of Basrah Holds a Scientific Workshop on Colloquial Arabic and its Relationship to Standard Arabic
The Center for Development and Continuing Education at the University of Basrah, in cooperation with the College of Education for Women, held a workshop entitled "Colloquial Arabic and its Relationship to Standard Arabic."
The workshop aimed to highlight the growing use of colloquial dialects in Arab societies compared to the decline of Standard Arabic.
The workshop emphasized the importance of language as a fundamental pillar for the survival of nations and a vessel for cultural identity.
The workshop, presented by faculty member Wasan Yaqoub Al-Tamimi, reviewed the origins and diversity of colloquial dialects and their connection to Standard Arabic. She explained the origins of many commonly used words and their relationship to different Arabic dialects, thereby enhancing linguistic awareness among students, staff, academics, and the general public.
