University of Basrah Organizes Seminar on Species Identification in Plant Pathogenic Fungi
The College of Agriculture at the University of Basrah organized a scientific seminar entitled "Species Identification in Fungal Pathogens and Methods of Distinguishing Between Subspecies."
The seminar, presented by Dr. Alaa Awda Maneh, aimed to highlight the importance of adopting clear and standardized criteria for diagnosing plant pathogenic fungi. This contributes to developing precise and effective control measures to address the challenges of food security, climate change, and the decline of agricultural land.
The seminar also emphasized the need for mycologists and plant pathologists to focus on accurate species identification, striking a balance between precise scientific names and simplified common names. This ensures easy communication between researchers and farmers and enhances the effectiveness of plant disease control.
