Master’s Thesis at the University of Basrah Examines the Effect of Collagen Films on Frozen Kawas Fish
A master’s thesis at the College of Agriculture, University of Basrah, entitled “The Effect of Partially Hydrolyzed Collagen Films on the Chemical and Quality Characteristics of Frozen Kawas Fish,” investigated the impact of collagen-based films on fish stored under freezing conditions.
The study, conducted by researcher Ilham Salem Abdullah, aimed to utilize fish-processing by-products, particularly the skins of mullet fish, to extract partially hydrolyzed collagen and employ it as a biodegradable film for coating Kawas fish.
The research included the stages of collagen extraction, processing, and application to the fish, along with monitoring chemical, microbiological, and sensory changes during frozen storage periods of up to 120 days. The results were compared with uncoated samples to evaluate the effectiveness of the collagen films.
