University of Basrah Organizes a Scientific Symposium on the Visuals and Discourses of War
The Basra and Arabian Gulf Studies Center at the University of Basrah organized a scientific symposium entitled "War: From Reality to Visual Discourses: Representations and Functions."
The symposium aimed to shed light on how images of war are produced and received in the collective consciousness as a space where memory and imagination intersect, contributing to shaping public perception and formulating historical narratives. It also sought to reveal the symbolic and influential dimensions of visuals in shaping public opinion and constructing meaning.
The symposium included discussions on several themes, including the mechanisms for constructing war images in the media, the role of visual discourses in imagination or disinformation, the functions of images in reshaping reality and representing events, and a critical reading of war representations in contemporary cultural and social contexts.
