The University of Basrah holds a lecture on rumen development in calves.
In support of enhancing livestock production efficiency, the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Basrah organized a lecture on rumen development in calves.
The lecture aimed to focus on the functional and histological development of the calf rumen and to monitor its early stages through scientifically based feeding strategies that ensure optimal feed utilization, leading to faster growth and improved productivity.
The lecture, delivered by Dr. Numeir Abdul Karim Khudair, addressed a comparative analysis of the histological and anatomical structure of the calf rumen across different stages of development, as well as methods to enhance rumen efficiency in young calves within the shortest possible time to achieve higher and more efficient production.
The lecture recommended providing water starting from the third day after birth, along with the introduction of feed such as grains or roughage to stimulate the growth and proliferation of rumen microorganisms, thereby enhancing early digestive efficiency.
