University of Basrah Organizes a Seminar on the Potential of Transforming Basra into a Smart City
The Basra and Arabian Gulf Studies Center at the University of Basra organized a seminar entitled "Smart Cities and Their Applicability in Basra Governorate."
The seminar aimed to highlight the concept of smart cities and global experiences, explain the role of information and communication technology in developing urban management, and discuss the possibility of transforming Basra into a smart city in light of its economic, human, and infrastructural resources.
The seminar included a lecture by Dr. Maryam Khairallah Khalaf, who defined smart cities as cities that rely on employing digital technologies to collect and analyze administrative and urban data. This contributes to improving the efficiency of public services, enhancing integration between government institutions and citizens, and raising the quality of life. The seminar also reviewed the most important smart systems adopted in this field, including transportation, energy, water, sanitation, and waste management systems, in addition to developing health and educational facilities and digital services.
