The Basra and Arabian Gulf Studies Center at the University of Basrah organized a symposium entitled "The Role of Religious Institutions in Building Social Peace and Combating Violent Extremism," in cooperation with the Iraqi Center for Documenting Crimes of Extremism, affiliated with the Holy Al-Abbas Shrine, and the UNESCO Chair for Interfaith Dialogue at the University of Kufa. The symposium was attended by the Vice-President of the University for Administrative Affairs, Dr. Ayman Saleh Naama, and a number of researchers and specialists.
The symposium aimed to highlight the contribution of religious institutions in consolidating the values of peaceful coexistence and rejecting violence and extremism, as well as to review the policies and mechanisms of the Iraqi Center for Documenting Crimes of Extremism in monitoring and mitigating extremist phenomena.
The symposium addressed several key themes, most notably the role of Shia scholars in promoting social peace, the policies of the Iraqi Center for Documenting Crimes of Extremism in combating violent extremism, and the call to spread a culture of dialogue and coexistence among the various components of society.
This event is part of the Basra and Arabian Gulf Studies Center's efforts to support scholarly activities that contribute to strengthening social stability and addressing contemporary intellectual and behavioral challenges.
