As part of its ongoing efforts to promote intellectual awareness and reinforce the values of tolerance and social peace, the Natural History Museum at the University of Basrah organized an awareness lecture entitled “Extremism and the Role of Students and Academics in Rejecting Extremism Leading to Violence.”
The lecture aimed to highlight the dangers of extremist ideology and its negative impacts on individuals and society, while emphasizing the pivotal role of both students and academic staff in addressing such phenomena through promoting a culture of dialogue, moderation, and intellectual openness.
The lecture, delivered by the Director of the Museum, Dr. Shatha Mohammed Hamza, addressed several key themes, including the concept of extremism, its causes, and its psychological and social effects, in addition to presenting practical approaches for prevention within the educational environment and the role of academic institutions in building awareness that safeguards society from drifting toward violence and extremism.
This activity forms part of a series of educational initiatives organized by the museum to contribute to strengthening intellectual security and reinforcing humanitarian and national values within the university community.
