President of the University of Basrah Honors the College of Agriculture for Its National Leadership in the Iraqi University Ranking
The Presidency of the University of Basrah held a grand central ceremony at the University headquarters to celebrate its achievement of third place among Iraqi universities in the national ranking. The event was held under the patronage and in the presence of the University President, Prof. Dr. Muhannad Jawad Kazem Al-Asadi, the Assistant President for Scientific Affairs, Dr. Haider Khazal Muhbis, and members of the University Council.
The ceremony featured special recognition for the College of Agriculture, represented by its Dean, Dr. Sarmad Ghazi Mohammed Al-Shawi, and the heads of its academic departments, in appreciation of the historic accomplishment achieved by the College. Its departments secured first place among all Colleges of Agriculture in Iraq, making it the primary contributor and cornerstone of the University’s rise to the national podium.
In his speech, Prof. Dr. Al-Asadi stated: “The excellence of the departments of the College of Agriculture and their attainment of top positions is not a coincidence, but a well-deserved achievement reflecting sound planning and diligent work. It is clear evidence of the quality of the College’s academic and research outputs, which have proven their merit at the national level.”
He added that this accomplishment places a greater responsibility on the University to further promote a culture of quality and innovation, update curricula in line with global standards, and strengthen research environments that support publication in reputable international databases such as Scopus and Clarivate.
For his part, the Dean of the College of Agriculture expressed pride in the recognition, describing it as motivation to continue striving for excellence. He affirmed the College’s commitment to its developmental approach in serving Iraq’s agricultural sector and enhancing the standing of the University of Basrah in future national and international rankings.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, the University President presented shields and certificates of appreciation to the Dean and heads of departments, amid wide praise for the leadership and academic role played by the College of Agriculture in advancing higher education.
