University of Basrah Organizes Lecture on Environmental Changes
The Natural History Museum at the University of Basrah organized a scientific lecture entitled “Environmental Changes and Their Impact on Species Extinction in Iraq,” as part of its activities aimed at promoting environmental awareness and highlighting the challenges facing biodiversity in the country.
The lecture sought to clarify the impact of accelerating environmental changes on Iraq’s ecosystems and the direct threats they pose to numerous living organisms. It also examined the natural and human-induced factors contributing to the decline of certain species and their progression toward endangered or extinct status.
The lecture, delivered by the specialist Ali Muzhir (may he rest in peace), addressed several key themes, including manifestations of environmental degradation, the effects of climate change, desertification, and water scarcity on natural habitats. It further reviewed scientific and administrative measures capable of mitigating these phenomena and safeguarding biodiversity.
This event forms part of a series of scientific activities organized by the Museum in support of ongoing efforts to protect the environment and preserve Iraq’s natural resources.
