University of Basrah Holds Dialogue Seminar on the Role of Universities in Combating Violent Extremism
The College of Education for Pure Sciences at the University of Basrah, in cooperation with the Holy Abbasid Shrine and the Iraqi Center for Documenting Crimes of Extremism, held a dialogue seminar entitled “The Role of Universities in Combating Violent Extremism,” coinciding with the International Day for Countering Violent Extremism.
The seminar, presented by Dr. Qais Nasser Rahi, advisor to the Center, included an explanation of the concept of extremism and its stages leading to terrorism, along with a review of examples of political extremism during the Ba'athist regime and religious extremism after 2003.
The seminar concluded with recommendations emphasizing the importance of strengthening the role of universities in spreading a culture of tolerance and intellectual prevention. A photo exhibition documenting crimes of extremism and images of victims accompanied the seminar.
