University of Basrah Organizes a Course on the Unique Features of Fundy Bay
The Marine Science Center at the University of Basrah organized a course entitled "Reasons for Fundy Bay's Highest Tides."
The course aimed to enable participants to understand the complex natural phenomena that lead to the highest tides in the world at Fundy Bay by linking astronomy, physical geography, and physics.
The course, presented by faculty member Faiz Younis Khalil, included: explaining the relationship between the gravitational pull of the moon and sun and the phenomenon of tides in general; analyzing the main reason behind the amplitude of the tides in Fundy Bay, focusing on the concepts of resonance and the bay's trumpet shape; comparing it with other regions in the world in terms of tidal range; assessing the environmental and economic importance, such as clean energy, of this unique phenomenon; and clarifying the impact of future variables, such as climate change, on the strength of this phenomenon.
