University of Basrah Organizes Guidance Seminar on Countering Violent Extremism
The College of Agriculture at the University of Basrah organized a guidance seminar titled “Violent Extremism: Its Causes, Origins, and the Role of the Family in Addressing It.”
The seminar aimed to raise participants’ awareness of the factors that may lead some individuals toward extremism, such as emotional deprivation, exposure to violent methods, environmental influences, psychological pressures, and the absence of positive role models.
The seminar, delivered by Sheikh Murtada Al-Zarkani on behalf of the General Secretariat of the Holy Al-Husseini Shrine, highlighted the family’s role in guiding children—ranging from the careful selection of a life partner and avoiding violent disciplinary methods, to continuous care and monitoring—drawing on Quranic verses, the Prophet’s biography, and the teachings of the Imams to foster individuals committed to a purposeful and ethical society.
