Master's Thesis at the University of Basrah Examines the Biological Activity of Some Poppy Species
A master's thesis at the College of Pharmacy, University of Basrah, investigated the extraction and isolation of certain alkaloids from some wild poppy species in Iraq and evaluated their biological activity.
The thesis, submitted by student Haider Abdul-Amir Kasid, aimed to extract the alkaloid ramirin from the wild poppy plant and evaluate its effectiveness as an antioxidant, which could pave the way for its future production and medical use in combating several bacteria.
The thesis comprised four chapters in which the student discussed the collection of four wild poppy species from various regions of Iraq, the extraction of the alkaloids, and the evaluation of their presence.
