University of Basrah Organizes a Seminar on Combating Extremism
The Marine Science Center at the University of Basrah organized a seminar on combating violent extremism.
The seminar aimed to highlight the phenomenon of extremism as one of the most prominent challenges facing contemporary societies and to explore ways to protect individuals from its dangers. It also sought to adopt a comprehensive approach that goes beyond security measures to encompass thought, culture, and development.
The seminar, presented by Dr. Sita Aram Kiork, included an analysis of the phenomenon as a concept, a discussion of the factors leading to violent extremism, and an examination of the intellectual, ideological, psychological, social, political, and economic motivations. It also outlined strategies for preventing the phenomenon.
The seminar concluded by emphasizing that combating violent extremism is a shared societal responsibility requiring the concerted efforts of all—states, individuals, and institutions. It further recommended that investing in human capital and strengthening the values of citizenship are the true guarantees for protecting societies from the dangers of extremism and violence.
