University of Basrah Hosts Workshop on Modern Standard Arabic Between Humans and Machines
The Center for Development and Continuing Education at the University of Basrah, in collaboration with the College of Education for Women, organized a workshop titled “Modern Standard Arabic Between Humans and Machines: How Do Algorithms Understand It?”
The workshop aimed to explore how computational systems handle the structure of the Arabic language, with its rich morphology, complex syntax, and semantic depth, while addressing the challenges of converting its rules into digital data.
The workshop, presented by Lecturer Sarah Abdul-Kadhim Zgheer, covered topics including how machines “perceive” language, the unique characteristics of Modern Standard Arabic, and the challenges facing AI applications, in addition to discussing the gap between classical Arabic and modern technological tools.
