University of Basrah Holds Lecture on Mycotoxins and Their Health Effects
The Date Palm Research Center at the University of Basrah organized a scientific lecture titled “Mycotoxins and Their Pathological Effects on Humans and Animals.”
The lecture aimed to introduce the main types of mycotoxins affecting plants and their harmful impacts on human and animal health, emphasizing their direct effect on food safety and quality.
The presentation, delivered by researcher Luna Qahtan Mohsen, covered the factors leading to mycotoxin formation, contamination sources in plants and food products, and scientific methods to reduce and prevent such contamination. It also reviewed the main types of mycotoxins, the fungi that produce them, their effects on different human organs, and toxicity levels for each type, highlighting the importance of adhering to preventive and regulatory measures to ensure food safety.
