PhD Dissertation at the University of Basrah Explores Soviet Nuclear Weapons
A PhD dissertation at the College of Education for Humanities at the University of Basrah examined the issue of Soviet nuclear weapons in Ukraine during 1991–1994 and its implications (a historical study).
The dissertation, submitted by the student Ahmad Khammat Saber Al-Assafi, aimed to investigate the circumstances surrounding the inherited Soviet nuclear weapons in Ukraine, the factors that led to the presence of a Soviet nuclear arsenal in Ukraine after the collapse of the Soviet Union, and how Ukraine responded to international pressures regarding nuclear disarmament.
The dissertation also addressed the concept of nuclear weapons and the historical roots of Ukraine’s nuclear program within the Soviet Union up to 1991.
