Master's Thesis at the University of Basrah Examines Non-Consent in Grammatical Debate
A thesis at the College of Education for Humanities at the University of Basrah examined "Non-Consent in Grammatical Debate in Al-Anbari's Book 'Al-Insaf' (d. 577 AH)."
The thesis, submitted by student Alaa Ali Rahim, aimed to uncover the cognitive frameworks that govern and guide Arabic grammatical thought. It also investigated the intellectual mechanisms that grammarians relied upon in constructing and justifying their rules. Understanding these frameworks not only helps in interpreting the opinions of grammarians but also provides a deeper insight into the nature of Arabic grammatical thought as a dialectical and rational approach based on balancing evidence and proof, drawing its analytical and critical tools and methods from the heritage of logic and dialectic.
The thesis comprised three chapters. The first chapter, divided into two sections, identified instances of non-compliance in al-Anbari's book, al-Insaf. The second chapter, also divided into two sections, examined the reasons behind al-Anbari's non-compliance in al-Insaf. The third chapter, also divided into two sections, explored the consequences of this non-compliance.
