The University of Basrah Council Holds Its Ninth Session for the Academic Year 2025–2026 and Approves the Promotion of 19 Faculty Members to the Rank of Professor
The Council of University of Basrah held its ninth (morning) session for the academic year 2025–2026, chaired by the University President, Professor Muhannad Jawad Kazem Al-Asadi, and attended by the Vice Presidents for Scientific and Administrative Affairs, the Council Secretary, and its members.
The session commenced with a review of the directives issued by The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. Discussions focused on the outcomes of the “Council of Opinion” for 2026, while the meeting agenda also prioritized deliberations on the “Guidelines for the Policy on the Use of Artificial Intelligence Tools in Scientific Research.”
The Council further discussed a number of vital issues concerning undergraduate students and reviewed the mechanisms for their implementation. In addition, requests to reduce tuition fees for students enrolled in the Parallel Government Education Program in several colleges were considered, alongside matters related to postgraduate students.
In a step considered the first of its kind this year, the Council approved the minutes of promotion for nineteen faculty members from various colleges of the university to the rank of Professor, following the completion of all rigorous academic and research requirements.
At the conclusion of the session, the University President called for concerted efforts to enhance the university’s academic and administrative performance, emphasizing the importance of supporting scientific research and activating the role of advisory offices in ways that serve Basra Governorate and the broader Iraqi community.
