The University of Basrah Organizes a Humanitarian Visit to the Elderly Care Home in Basrah
The College of Dentistry at the University of Basrah organized a humanitarian visit to the Elderly Care Home in Basrah Governorate, with the participation of several faculty members and fifth-year students. The initiative comes within the framework of strengthening the role of academic institutions in serving the community and promoting the values of human solidarity.
The visit aimed to provide moral support to the elderly and to establish direct communication with them. It also included conducting preliminary oral and dental health examinations and offering the necessary health guidance to help maintain oral hygiene, particularly as this group requires special care and regular follow-up.
The visit featured awareness sessions on dental care and the maintenance of dentures, along with the distribution of some essential health supplies. In addition, dialogue sessions were organized that reflected a spirit of respect and appreciation for this group, which represents the collective memory of society and its accumulated experience.
The supervising faculty members emphasized that such initiatives fall within the college’s vision of integrating academic, practical, and humanitarian dimensions, while providing students with opportunities to gain field experience that enhances their professional skills and deepens their sense of social responsibility.
