University of Basrah Discusses the Role of Fungi in Biotechnology and Sustainable Agriculture
The College of Agriculture at the University of Basrah organized a seminar titled “Fungi as Tools in Biotechnology and Sustainable Agriculture: Mechanisms, Applications, and Future Prospects.”
The seminar, delivered by Dr. Najlaa Hussein Mohammed, aimed to highlight the role of fungi as a fundamental component and to emphasize their biological significance in agricultural and technological fields.
It addressed the role of fungi as a key factor in improving plant health and enhancing agricultural productivity.
The session also reviewed the importance of fungi as a primary source of industrial enzymes, contributing to more than 50% of global production.
Furthermore, it explored future prospects for the use of synthetic biology in developing high-yield fungal strains that support environmental and economic sustainability.
